PostHeaderIcon Choosing a Weight Loss Program

When you want to lose weight, you need to scrutinize each weight loss program available to find one that is right for you.
Although every weight loss program has the goal of helping you lose the extra pounds and helping you keep them off, not all weight loss programs are the same. What works for one person may not work for another because of individual differences in taste in food and in the lifestyle a person leads.
A person who travels a lot, for example, and eats a lot of meals in restaurants will find it harder to stick to a program that involves eating specific foods and in specific portions. This is what is involved in the Nutrisystem, LA Weight Loss, San Diego medical weight loss (http://www.vfhcinc.com/events.html), and Jenny Craig weight loss programs. A person who does eat breakfast and dinner at home and takes a lunch to work will be able to do well on one of these systems.
Weight Watchers is a weight loss program that allows you to eat whatever foods you wish, but you do have to be cognizant of the amounts of food you eat. Depending on your beginning weight, you have a specific number of points that you can use each day. You can lot out the food that you eat each day and there are lists of fast foods and restaurant meals included in the literature for you to consult when you do eat out.
No matter what medical weight loss program you decide to use, you do have to cut out eating junk food. These foods are very high in calories and will not only decrease your chances of losing weight, but you will be hungry a lot sooner after you eat. Another thing that all the programs for losing weight have in common is that you have to exercise to tone up your muscles, help lose the fat from your muscles and help you lose inches.
Adding fruits and vegetables to your diet will also help you lose weight. This is because most of these foods are negative calorie foods, which means your body has to burn calories in order to digest these foods. Thus you burn more calories than you consume and you feel full for longer periods of time.
When deciding which weight loss program is best for you, you have to look at the number of calories you should consume each day. Women need to have at least 1200 calories a day and men need at least 1500 calories a day. A healthy weight loss is 2 pounds a week and your daily diet should contain foods from the four food groups.
In order to lose weight sensibly and keep it off, you do have to make a change in your eating habits and your lifestyle. This means eating smaller portions and making sure that you exercise at least 20 minutes three times a week. When you watch what you eat and include healthy snacks in your diet, you will notice weight loss.
There will be times when you hit a plateau and not lose any weight for a few days or a week, but you shouldn’t let this discourage you. Along with weighing yourself, you should also take your measurements because as you tone up your muscles, you may actually gain pounds but lose inches.

Fast and Healthy Weight Loss

Is Fast and Healthy Weight Loss Possible?

Unfortunately healthy weight loss is usually put on the back burner when people search for weight loss techniques. This is because often times people will finally crack down and decide that they want to try a diet and it is really easy to become discouraged if results are not seen right away. If you are suffering through a diet, shouldn’t you get the benefits at least somewhat quickly? The truth of the matter is that you probably did not put on 14 pounds in two weeks, so should you really put yourself through the physical strain to try and take that much weight off so fast? Also there is the fact that there is almost no way short of surgery that so much body fat will come off so quickly. It is very likely that part of that extremely fast weight loss is water weight, which is weight that you need and weight that will come back and not stay off permanently.

How Fast is Too Fast?

The answer to the original questions is that yes, it is possible to lose weight quickly under the right conditions. However, there are differing opinions as to how much weight is quick weight loss. The healthy way to achieve quick weight loss is 2 pounds per week. It sounds like a low number but it really is not. Two pounds per week means that in two short months you could weigh a whole sixteen pounds lighter and you would not have to go through any grueling program. Also with a healthy weight loss technique you will lose pounds of fat, and as long as you maintain healthy eating habits the weight will not come right back as it would with some of the more unhealthy diets out there.

Unhealthy diets include those that involve diet pills, severe calorie restriction, and diets that involve avoiding any of the major food groups (including fat!).

PostHeaderIcon Dieting and Quick Weight Loss

Developing tummy fat has a way of motivating people — oftentimes our waistlines “develop” as we get older, much like our bodies grow and develop during puberty.  However, unlike adolescent and teenage growth spurts, gaining unhealthy weight and even becoming obese are not requirements of getting older, though these trends certainly fit the current norms.  When you’re ready to take on the challenge of getting into better shape, and burning off excess fat, using quick weight loss diets may come to mind. In these times, two questions oftentimes come to mind, “Do they work”, and “are they safe?” — these are the questions we seek to answer today.Quick weight loss diets – do they work? The short and long of this question is yes and no.  Fast weight loss diets can work, but when you are dealing with quick weight loss, the “instant” results that you see are not conducive to long-term gains, or rather losses in this case, in the grand scheme of things.  When you lose weight quickly, it is most often due to the loss of excess water in your system, not due to the burning of fat.  So, if your weight loss diet helps you to lose weight very fast, there’s a good chance that the results will be temporary, at least unless your diet program of choice has a way of combating the real problem — the accumulation of body fat.Quick weight loss diets – are the safe? The answer to this question depends on how you’re reaching your weight loss goals. If you’re trying to lose five to seven pounds for an event coming up in a week or so, the dangers of irreparable harm to an otherwise healthy individual are not all that likely. To lose this kind of weight in a week, chances are you are going to be removing some of the water buildup in your system, not burning off fat.  To lose five pounds this quickly through fat loss, as opposed to water weight loss, you would absolutely need to incorporate an extreme exercise routine into your daily regimen, unless you’re a 6′3″, 25 year old man weighing in at 400 pounds and want to take part in a starvation diet for six-to-seven days.  And at this size and weight — five pounds won’t make a lot of difference, anyway. To lose five pounds of fat in a week, while possible, a 200 pound man would have to play 20 hours of full-contact football, and a 135 pound woman would have to endure around 30 hours of vigorous bike riding or 10″-12″ step aerobics while keeping your caloric intake pretty close to your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate).   To sum things up, though, quick weight loss diets, if they help you to take off excess water, may be safe for generally healthy individuals, but in terms of fast fat burning — not only is it not safe, this option is not really feasible for individuals who currently maintain a less-than-active lifestyle. While your excess tummy fat may have, in fact, given you the motivation you need to get started with a weight loss diet or program, just know that not all quick weight loss diets produce long-term results, and unless there is a clear and concise plan laid out on how you can continue to lose weight — look into something else.

PostHeaderIcon Maintaining Weight After Weight Loss

I presume because you are reading this article, that you have managed after hard work and commitment to lose some weight, and you want to keep it that way and you don’t want to slip back and gain it back again.

Congratulations! We both know how much willpower, work and commitment it takes to make it to this point, now the most important thing is to maintain that weight by using a combination of right diet and exercise and good mental attitude.

Maintaining weight is very important because experience shows that most dieters regain a third of what they lost within the first year and two-thirds of it in the second year.  It’s important to understand what is needed here; it is really a matter of energy balance!  But know also that the hardest part is now over, because maintaining weight is actually easier, not harder, than losing it.

At this point it’s important that your lifestyle is balanced and you want to avoid all unnecessary stress that could cause old habits to surface again.  Success in gaining, losing, or maintaining weight is dependent upon a combination of factors; I always used to say that losing, gaining or maintaining weight is a result of the “freedom from the obsession and compulsion to eat,” not the other way around, but there is more to it.  You also need to establish some important new routines in your life, because the main thing is to keep exercising and burn calories each day.  This is your magic formula from now on:”best approach is to ensure that one’s physical activity level is high enough to balance the number of calories consumed”.

You know those weight charts? I bet you do, where your weight ranges are shown in the chart and people of the same height may have equal amounts of body fat but different amounts of muscle and bone…  Don’t look at them too much now, go after your own gut feeling and your good friend; the mirror! There are also many weight loss groups and organizations if you feel you need support, remember that this is an intimate personal and difficult struggle, but it’s not one that anyone needs to go through alone.  In this modern world weight loss has become an essential objective for several people, but only a few are succeeding in their task.  You have gone through that already, but know that for many, weight gain or regain is embarrassing, and seeking help is delayed.  If you join a group and your situation is monitored weekly, the purpose of this assessment is to provide an evaluation and recommendations for maintaining a healthy weight based on your individual needs.

We are all different, groups can be helpful but they are not for everyone.

One of my students recently said; “I’ve struggled with weight issues for most of my life, and aside from the occasional slice of molten chocolate cake, I finally have it under control.  Now I basically follow a group point system and strive to keep my dry carb intake to a minimum”.

For her it’s ok to do it alone, but she is using a weight chart every week.

 Health

I think everybody agrees nowadays that the key to losing weight is to burn more calories than are consumed, either by increasing physical activity or consuming fewer calories – or preferably both.  Health professionals judge a low-calorie sweetener to be of benefit for weight control.

What are the dangers at this point when you are in a situation where the main battle is won, but you look for safe and healthy ways to maintain your situation?

Usually they are psychological issues. How balanced we are emotionally and how we can see ourselves in a new positive light. It’s very important to be aware of the potential purposes of anger, how anger impacts health, and learn assertive methods of dealing with anger.  Health and fitness experts all know this and the most recent research related to emotional and physical health has found that there are pitfalls and the old feelings might come back from time to time. Feelings of unworthiness fear of rejection, bad self image etc.

These feelings can be triggers – for bad habits again – so it’s very important to stay alert, that is why I always recommend some kind of group or/and family and friend support.

Now that you have come this far, make it even better! You probably see now that anything is possible, you only need a positive attitude and you are ready to recreate yourself.

Visit also my blog where I give every week new tips and strategies for all kinds of weight loss situations.

 Good luck and stay fit!

PostHeaderIcon Tips on Quick Weight Loss – Reasonable Weight Loss

Many are in a hurry to lose weight quick. Quick losses are unhealthy and never maintained for the long term. A healthy and more effective approach is to gradually lose weight at the rate of 1 to 2 pounds a week or even a little slower so your body can adjust its metabolism accordingly. In short, by dieting in this manner you will burn off fat instead of just losing water or even worse, muscle.
Pick the Right Weight Loss Program
It really all starts here. You may have an overall idea of what to do and how to do it, but a weight loss program that fits your needs will keep you organized and on track. It will also document your success. Consider important factors such as your gender, age, overall health, and any other thing that you feel is important when comparing plans. Economics should also be considered. You don’t need the added stress of trying to figure out how you are going to pay for the program or its implementation. Pick a plan you can afford, one that will work with the foods from your local community and exercise that is easily accessible to you.
Take Action
Most who wish to lose weight do exactly that, wish and wish only. They never actually do anything. You need to take action, don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today. Get started. You will be able to learn as you go and you will feel better about yourself. Once you’re started you will not be mulling over the decision any longer. You will focus on implementation and will start seeing results.
Slow Down and Pace Yourself
Remember, you are in this for the long haul. You will have a long term goal of losing X amount of weight, but break it up into smaller increments and reward yourself each time you reach these goals. Do something fun without violating your weight loss plan. The same goes for any exercise. Don’t start the first day by running a marathon. Start with moderate exercise and try to be regular with it. At least 30 min. three times a week. Do something enjoyable. Take a walk or ride a bicycle. Including a friend or your favorite pet can also make things a little easier.
Successfully Make the Transition to Maintenance
Be sure not to go back to old habits. Once you reach your complete weight loss goal continue your new healthy life style. Good eating habits and exercise will be something you will always be doing and you will enjoy it to boot!
Tips to Remember
1. Stay away from “fad” diets.
2. Strive for permanent weight loss.
3. Lose gradually
4. Don’t skip meals, especially breakfast
5. Exercise regularly
6. Make dieting enjoyable
7. Keep it practical
8. Get proper sleep
9. Consider economics
10. No such thing as effective tips on quick weight loss.
Conclusion:
No tips on quick weight loss here other than to stay away from them. Quick weight loss is not healthy and you will always regain your losses and some. Losing gradually works and you will be able to keep those pounds away permanently. Start a proper weight loss program now and you might not be ready for that special event in two weeks but in time you will be ready for all the special events for the rest of your life!

PostHeaderIcon Weight Loss Plan-how to Build a Successful Plan to Lose Weight Healthily

A structured weight loss plan is one of the best ways to make certain of success in your weight loss efforts. The details of the plan can vary according to the individual and the personality type, but a plan is probably the most significant component of any successful diet. Don’t just wake up one morning and decide to lose one hundred pounds or even five pounds and expect to be totally successful. You may be one of the few to lose a few pounds and not regain it, but you would be in the minority. Instead, think logically and rationally about what you are eating and what you should be eating. Then set about implementing changes into your eating habits over time.

See Your Doctor

The first step in your new weight loss plan should be to schedule a visit with your family physician.  The medical professional is in a position to either counsel you directly or to refer you to another specialist in dealing with obesity, nutrition and dietary practices. The purpose of medical advice is to provide you with information about the safety and effectiveness of various dietary formulas.  Visiting with the physician doesn’t mean that you should blindly accept whatever you are told. Use the advice of the doctor as a starting point for doing your own research into the diets you are considering.

Do Your Research

Before settling on a particular weight loss plan, you should be familiar with what is expected of you and what benchmarks you can expect while following the plan. For instance, if you only need to lose a few pounds and want to get them off in a hurry, don’t pick a diet plan that relies on long term lifestyle changes to accomplish the weight loss. If you hate counting calories, don’t pick a diet that measures portions and has strict guidelines to follow.

Set Goals

Your weight loss plan should contain reasonable and doable recognition of your current weight, your desired rate of loss, the deadlines you need to meet and your target rate. Be realistic about how rapidly you can lose weight. For example, a 40 pound loss in two weeks is highly unlikely, no matter what diet you follow. While setting your goals, consider lifestyle goals as well as weight loss goals. The weight goals you set and the lifestyle changes you want to implement should work in tandem to help you reach your desired level of weight and fitness.

Choose a Low Stress Time

You should implement your weight loss plan at a time when you can focus on making changes without adding extra stress to your lifestyle. For example, if you are setting off on a two week cruise next week, don’t start a diet tomorrow. Many people start diets as part of a New Year’s resolution, but you can make small changes in your lifestyle at any time. January makes a good time to start a diet plan that has a goal of looking good in a swim suit by summer.

PostHeaderIcon What Are The Best Weight Loss Goals?

What are the best weight loss goals? For a start having a weight loss goal is essential to losing weight. Having a target to reach is a great motivational tool for shedding your extra pounds.

When you step on the scales each day to see how much weight you are losing is great, but to keep weight dropping having a varied amount of ‘goals’ is the way forward to continued healthy weight loss.

There is no point setting yourself very unrealistic goals, or goals you just won’t bother trying to reach. For example by just saying you will get ‘more regular exercise’ is not really enough, you need to set a goal of ‘walk three miles a day’. But then again if your not fit enough this could be changed to ‘walk for 30 minutes a day’.

Try and set goals that are suited to your lifestyle and situation. Walking for 30 minutes each day just is not possible if you have a full time job, remember set goals that are realistic.

You can’t best success! A great way to keep motivated during your weight loss program is to measure yourself at the start of your dieting. Measure your bust, waist, hips and thighs note down the sizes. Every couple of weeks re-measure and note down the decrease in size, it is great to actually see how your body size is improving! Set a goal using this technique.

Always remember that dieting takes time and must be carried out in a healthy manner. If you lose 2 pounds in a week you many think this is nothing, but 2 pounds a week is a very good weight loss goal. This amount of weight loss is very healthy, any more and you could be harming your body or changing your lifestyle too much.

PostHeaderIcon Eagan Personal Trainer Helps You Smash Through Weight Loss Plateaus

There is nothing more frustrating than doing everything that you are ’supposed’ to do but for whatever reason the weight loss just stops. Many of our clients here at the Body Project have struggled with weight loss plateaus in the past, but they were over to over come them with a progressive systematic approach. Before we get into how our personal training clients smash through their weight loss plateaus and how you can to, it is important to determine if you have actually hit a plateau or perhaps you haven’t actually been following your diet and/or training program. The first step is to do a gut check and make sure your compliance to your program is where it needs to be. If you haven’t been 90% compliant then stop reading this article and get back to focusing on doing what you actually said you were going to do. So many of our clients thought they were doing the right thing until they went through our 12 week weight loss coaching program and got a real education in what it takes to lose fat fast.If you have been sticking to your program but have stopped losing weight then we have a problem.Homeostasis.The human body is all about achieving homeostasis, so what we need to do is shake things up and get our systems guessing. At the Body Project when someone hits a plateau we tell them their are 4 ways that you can disrupt homeostasis and blast through your weight loss plateau. You aren’t meant to do all of them instead just pick one at a time. Monitor your progress and see if it is working. If not, switch up your strategies.1. Increase Calories for 7-10 DaysThis doesn’t mean go off your diet. Instead, increase your calories (no more than 500 calories per day), mainly from carbohydrates to give your system a ‘break’ from calorie restriction. After the 7-10 day period cut your calories back down and your weight loss will start back up. This strategy works well if you have been dieting for a long time.2. Crank Up the IntensityOften times we find ourselves perpetually dieting and can just never seem to get those last 10 pounds off. In these situations cranking up the intensity from every angle (diet and training) for a set amount of time is a great way to blast through a weight loss plateau. With this method we are basically shocking your system out of homeostasis. Make sure you are doing both interval strength training and interval cardio training. If you are not implementing interval strategies in your routine, then make sure you contact us to set up a program for you.3. Change Your Training ProgramSticking to the same training program for too long used to be a very common problem. Now with all the training resources available to most people, being on a program for too long isn’t an issue for many people (but it may be for you). You need to be switching up your program (sets, reps, exercises, how many days a week you train, etc) every 4-6 weeks. If you do need a new program we can write a new program for you. At our personal training studio we are constantly changing our clients workouts to optimize their weight loss success.4. Reduce Your CarbsThis tip seems like it contradicts the first one, but it works just as well. Dropping your carbs down to a ketogenic level will demand your system uses fat as its primary fuel source. This metabolic fuel switch works best if your carbs aren’t too low already (>100grams). Now to further enhance the effect of this technique, use the ketogenic diet induction protocol where you eat 20grams of carbs or less for 2 weeks. ( basically protein and veggies )Weight loss plateaus are frustrating but don’t let them discourage you or stop you from reaching your goal.If you have truly reached a plateau pick one of the techniques above and put it into action. When you hit another plateau, pick another one. Continue doing this until you have reached your goal. Remember that for the most part weight loss is not a linear process. Plateaus are a normal physiological occurrence, but using the same strategies we use here at our Eagan Personal Training studio you can beat homeostasis and achieve the body you want.

PostHeaderIcon The Most Effective Weight Loss Diets – Modifications Necessary?

Trying to find the most effective weight loss diets can be quite a chore. The research can be a bit overwhelming and often confusing. The majority of popular weight loss diet programs and systems all seem to guarantee results.

But, have you ever noticed the disclaimers, ‘results not typical’? Obviously, if you are looking to lose weight and the advertisement shows people that have lost a substantial amount of weight, that is the program you want to buy into.

Throughout this article, you will gain the knowledge to determine the results you want as well as the program that is going to best fit into your daily routine and lifestyle. Do not allow yourself to be mislead into thinking you will be able to get a thin and trim look without having to work on it.

Looking good takes work. You will have to modify your eating habits, exercise on a regular basis and be determined to maintain this lifestyle after you have achieved your desired weight.

Some of the most popular weight loss diets are those that cost you money to join or to get assistance in losing the weight. In my opinion, even though these seem to reveal results are a scam. It makes little sense to me why a person would spend their hard earned money to lose weight with help, yet they didn’t have any help gaining the weight.

If you know how you began to gain the weight you should be able to lose the weight again with only a few modifications. For example, some of the popular no carb diets seem to work very well. However, on the other hand, in a regular well balanced diet you need to have carbohydrates.

Carbs give us energy, so I feel eliminating carbs completely from your diet will cause you to have less energy, which should cause you to have more fat produced and stored as a result. This is of course, over a longer period of time. Not just a week.

Now let’s discuss the calorie counting or points diets. These also seem to reveal wonderful results…but, in all honesty who really wants to do this? I do feel it is important that a person is aware of what they are eating as well as the amounts they are eating. As far as calorie counting, I personally do not have the time, or the drive to do this.

Here is what I think the most effective weight loss diets should be.

1. Don’t count calories. Instead write down every single thing you eat and drink for one week before you begin a new diet. This way you can see exactly what your eating habits are.

2. Make a commitment to yourself, in writing. Write down what your desired realistic goal weight is, when you want to be at this weight and how you plan to do it.

3. Plan on rewarding yourself once you achieve your goal. This can be by setting aside money every week to go on a shopping spree when you will be in need of new clothes to going on a cruise (write this down as well).

4. Change your eating habits. Include more fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet every day. When you want a snack reach for something like celery sticks with some peanut butter.

5. Only buy foods that are low in fat and low in carbs. You don’t have to go off the deep end with this. Some foods just do not taste the same if they are ‘diet’ oriented. Don’t stress out over the weight loss.

6.Get your blood pumping. Go swimming, walking or even to the park and run around with your kids or dog. Basically, exercise but make it fun, not work. This will help you to continue to be motivated longer.

As long as you are fully committed to yourself and your new lifestyle there is no reason you can not lose the weight without the assistance of one of the many popular most effective weight loss diets that are constantly being advertised on television, the internet and the radio.

No matter how much money you spend on the big name diet programs, none of them can guarantee you will stick with them or even reach your goal weight. So, why spend the money on something you can do yourself.

PostHeaderIcon Weight Loss Plan For Optimum Beauty

It is important to realise the impact of sudden withdrawal of food items that have been on your plate for a long time. If your weight loss is triggered by the danger of organ failure or severe disability, you may have to take drastic steps. In most cases,   the weight loss plan is designed to control weight gain before major health problems occur. Take care not to shock your body.

Chocolate cravings

Chocolates, ice creams, pastries and similar high fat sweet foods that have been a part of your daily routine are a clear cause of weight gain. Removing these items from your diet will do you a world of good since your blood will be purified, your body better able to discard toxins and your alimentary canal will work more efficiently. An effective weight loss plan will work towards reducing these foods. A drastic reduction of these foods will lead to increased cravings and binge eating that will play havoc with your system. If you are able to curb the bingeing, you are likely to find that your skin on your arms and neck has taken on a sagging appearance. Work to reduce your intake by cutting down the amount you consume on a daily basis. If you are used to having a chocolate bar 4 times a week, replace it with fruits 2 times a week. Do this for two weeks until you come to a point when you eat a small bar once in a week. You may feel the need to reduce it further on the basis of time taken for your target weight achievement.

Fried Items

Similarly, fried and salted foods like chips, burgers and the like affect the working of the heart over time. Your effort should be to replace the fried item with something that is easier on your system. Fried foods make you feel sluggish and you will find that your energy level increases when you reduce these foods from your daily intake. However, a sudden reduction in consumption will shock your body and drive you to satisfy its craving by over eating. Fat is required by your body in small quantities to help you assimilate vital nutrients and it is advisable to slowly move to healthy forms of fat with a weight loss plan that allows a gradual reduction of unhealthy foods so that there is a permanent effect on your health.

Manage Stress

A large part of the success of the weight loss plan depends on your ability to keep your mind occupied with activities that take you away from the regular events that involve eating unhealthy items. For instance, you may be prone to grabbing a bag of chips and eating in front of the television or computer. Your brain is used to these events going together. If you try to sit in front of the television with a plate of fruit, you will find yourself craving for chips. In the first phase of your weight loss plan, remove the habit of television watching altogether. Participate in community programs or sign up for dance or painting or any activity that takes out the routine involving eating.
